Summer Program Discount for 2009 International Convention Attendees
North America
- USY on Wheels, East
- “Classic” USY on Wheels – Spend six and a half weeks traveling coast to coast and experience North America, from sunrise on the rim of the Grand Canyon to pizza and blues in Chicago, as you connect with the people and places of this great continent.
- USY on Wheels, Mission Mitzvah – Wheelniks interact with and learn about various communities throughout North America through intensive social action projects, while participating in many of the same social, educational, touring, and sightseeing programs as the “Classic” Wheels program.
- Outdoor Adventure, Pacific Northwest – Discover the wonder of the Pacific Northwest on a 4-week camping trip while hiking, sea kayaking, and learning to live a Jewish lifestyle in the great outdoors. Participants hike the forests of Mount Ranier National Park, explore the caves of Mount St. Helens, and enjoy the experience of sea kayaking on Puget Sound.
- Outdoor Adventure: Costa Rica – Discover the wonder of Costa Rica on a 3-week trip while hiking, sightseeing, and exploring the rain forests of Central America. Learn how to live a Jewish lifestyle in a tropical rain forest while taking in the natural landscape and wildlife.
- Summer in the City – Spend five weeks in New York City in a challenging academic environment taking courses at the Jewish Theological Seminary of America and Barnard College and living in the JTS residence halls. The program also includes volunteer work and sightseeing and recreational activities around New York City.
Israel and Europe
- “Classic” Israel Pilgrimage – Spend six weeks in Israel for a complete introduction to the land, including the “Gadna” Israeli army Program. Become exposed to the history and contemporary realities of Judaism and Israel as you tour the length and breadth of the country with newfound friends.
- Spain/Israel Pilgrimage – Explore the great heritage of Jewish Spain including many famous philosophers, commentators, writers, and poets, while visiting the exciting cities of Madrid, Cordoba, Sevilla, Granada, and Toledo. Then spend five fabulous weeks touring the length and breadth of Israel.
- Eastern Europe/Israel Pilgrimage – pend two weeks exploring the history and cultures of Poland, the Czech Republic, and Hungary. Emphasis is placed on the past, present, and future of these extraordinary Jewish communities. Then you’ll spend four exciting weeks in Israel.
- Israel Pilgrimage/Poland Seminar – Spend one week in Poland, visiting Warsaw, Cracow, and Lublin, including the concentration camp sites of Auschwitz, Birkenau, Treblinka, Sobibor, and Majdanek, while exploring and studying the Holocaust and history of Polish Jewry. Then spend five weeks in Israel.
- Etgar! The Ultimate Israel Challenge – (This five week program is for those who have already participated in Israel Pilgrimage or a similar program). Discover the Israeli side of Israel. Meet the challenge of study combined with volunteer work, hiking, and interaction with Noam (USY’s sister movement in Israel).
- Israel Adventure – Experience a “taste” of Israel for four weeks. This unique group focuses upon growth and exploration. (Israel Adventure is for those who have little or no previous USY involvement).
- European Experience – Spend four weeks in Europe visiting Italy, France, Spain, and Portugal, exploring the unique Jewish history of these countries, while seeing all the regular tourist sites.
- Nativ – The USY year program in Israel that is open to USYers who have graduated from high school. It is a program of study at Hebrew University, leadership training, Kibbutz living experience, volunteer work with the community and lots of touring and personal growth.
- U.S.Y. High – This is a two month intensive high school program in Israel, which is run in conjunction with the Ramah Israel High School Program. It is a fully accredited program, where high school juniors and seniors in good academic standing are invited to participate. The program usually runs from early February through early April.
- U.S.Y. International Convention – This five day convention takes place in December in a hotel (usually preceded by a pre-convention or following by a post-convention). Approximately 1,000 USYers from North America attend this convention. Some of the highlights include: sightseeing, study sessions, social actions programs, elections of the new International officers and much more. This year, the convention will be held in Toronto.
